“Strictly Instrumental” is the result of a momentous session held in Columbia’s Nashville Studios on December 12, 1966: bluegrass stars Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, along with the Foggy Mountain Boys, laid down 11 sizzling instrumentals with guest star Doc Watson. The deaths of both Scruggs and Watson in the early months of 2012 add poignancy to this remarkable document of American roots music.
